Cambridge H Winter League 5k, Bexley, 1 December 2012. Claret & Gold shines at Bexley Making a nice big splash of claret & gold on a cold winter's day the Belles romped home with 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th places in the Cambridge Harriers Winter League 5km. Lauren Whelan was our first across the line, just 14 seconds off the win in her first Belgrave outing. Well done to her - racing well and approaching her best times! Good to have you on board with Belgrave!Sabina knocked nearly a minute of her previous 5km race and Tabi made the same improvement while Maureen walked her fastest 5km since she joined the W45 age group. Good walking wasn't confined to the ladies - Paul King broke 30 minutes for the first time in quite a while and John and Mark pulled the team through, working back towards fitness in the process. Everyone who is eligible please consider the 10km Southern Championships on the 5th January 2013. The aim in training is to keep the stamina work going until January ... February when we will begin shorter speed stamina sessions to work towards the indoor races and championships. Men. 1 C Corbishley (Medway) 23:51; 5 J Hall M60 28:00; 8 M Culshaw M45 29:04; 11 P King M60 29:58. Women. 1 H Butcher (Camb H) 26:03; 2 L Whelan 26:17; 3 S Brown W40 29:39; 4 M Noel W45 30:03; 5 T Gillan 32:17. Enfield Open 7 miles, Lee Valley, 10 November 2012. Belles triumph at Enfield The race was held on a road course at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre and our women did magnificently to win the team race. For Rebecca and Sabina it was their first 7 mile race and only Sabina's 3rd ever walking race, having started training just a couple of months ago. This was the team's first outing when prizes were on offer, so they were pleased to have a reward for their efforts, with Rebecca and Maureen having the bonus of individual prizes. Maureen and Sabina were together for about half the race, with Rebecca a little way back. Maureen then drew away from Sabina as the latter started to feel the effects of the distance. Rebecca passed Sabina and finished strongly, catching Maureen a bit over three-quarters of the way round. Maureen was her usual consistent self, her reliability such an asset to a team. Women. 1 2 R Crossan 68:44; 3 M Noel W45 69:04; 4 S Brown W40 69:36.

We're used to seeing Maureen Noel well up in the race walking fields but she had her heels cipped at Addington by four other Belles. Maureen (who won the National 50k Championship two weeks ago) was 10th in the male/female field with Rebecca Crossan 12th, Sabina Brown 13th, Tabi Gillan 16th and Laura McLelland 21st. It was only Tabi's 3rd ever race while Rebecca, Sabina and Laura had never raced before. BMAF 30k Champs., Coventry, 14 July 2012. Men. 1 I Richards (Steyning) 2:49.35; 4 J Hall M60 3:04:20. Aviva UKA Championships & Olympic Trials, Birmingham, 22-24 June 2012.
Now coached once more by Ray Hall, Alex Wright clearly won the 5000 metres Walk - not an Olympic event - but his 19:48.14 was a personal record and easily destroyed his previous best of 20:11.09 from 2010 which was also set in winning this title. Needless to say it was a Club Record as well. Men. 5000m : 1 A Wright 19:48.14.Bielsko-Biala, Poland, 17 June 2012. Men. 20k: 9 A Wright 90:44. Middlesex County Championships, Mile End, 12 May 2012.
