Percy Wright
We regret to inform that Percy Wright, Belgrave Harriers' oldest and longest serving member, has died aged 94 years.
Percy joined Belgrave in 1934 and thus achieved 74 years of membership. Originally he was a cross country runner but moved into race walking and went on to win silver medal in the AAA 2 miles of 1950. He competed into his 80s as a veteran. During the war years he edited the Belgrave newsletter and was instrumental in providing a trophy for our Youths Cross Country Championship - The Overseas Cup.
Percy is survived by his wife Kitty and their three sons.
His funeral will be held on 15 May at 12:20pm at Southampton Crematorium.
Speedy in California
Martin Blencowe has clocked a couple of hot hundred times recently. Racing in the VS Athletics Beach International he was timed at 10.60/1.4 to win his heat, and followed up with 10.59w/2.6 to win the B final.

47:13 15k from Simon Jones
Sun 4 May. With a couple of big races coming up Simon Jones (pictured below during the National 12-Stage) decided to have an "easy" weekend and took himself off to Breda in The Netherlands where he ran in the Haagse Beemdenloop 15k. He ended up 6th behind an assortment of Kenyans a Burundian and a Belgian in the fine time of 47:13. Winner was Boniface Biwott (Kenya) in 45:21. Results

Race walkers win National 50k
Sun 27 April - RWA 50k Championship
After a break of 24 years Belgrave race walkers finally got onto the winners podium at a national championship last Sunday at Stockton-on-Tees. Mark Culshaw, John Hall and Paul King teamed up to beat Redcar and Birchfield.
In the women's event Maureen Noel took the silver medal.

Sat 26 April - ERRA National 12-Stage Road Relay
Missing our two fastest long stage runners, we grafted all afternoon and ran right up to a predicted time that was close to winning ... based on last year's results ... but found that Leeds and Notts had raised their game in the meantime. Congratulations to them.
On last leg, and urged on by his team mates, Neil Speaight took our colours into third place, at Newham's expense. The Belgrave National 12-stage medal winning streak has now extended to eight years.

Flora London Marathon
Sun 13 Apr. The provisional results show that the Belles were close to the medals in the UKA and AAA team race with Vicky Knight setting a personal record of 2:51:35, Erica Fogg 3:04:44, and Nikki Neal 3:07:23. Birhan Dagne appeared to be in trouble approaching Tower Bridge and pulled out of the race.
Alex Wright placed 19th among the boys in the mini-marathon while Megan Evans, Nina Anderson and Joanne Foxley competed in the girls race.

Above: On the Embankment with only a couple of miles to go and Tom Ellacott, 2:34:53, is still wearing a devilish smile and having the race of his life. First Belgravian was Will Cockerell in 2:29:12. Kassa Tadesse was well up early on and went through 10k in 31:03, halfway in 67:25, but came out a little later.
