South of England AA Cross Country Championship - 26 January 2008
Far left: Jennifer Beecroft discovers the delights of Parliament Hill Fields in her first ever SEAA race.
Left: Tilly Heaton placed 58th.
Below: Heading for the top of the initial climb and it looks as we are all set for a head to head in the men's race between Wells City's Frank Tickner and Belgrave's Phil Wicks. But within a mile Phil was suffering from a "stitch" from which he just could not recover and he eventually had to settle for 9th place.
Above left: as the race wore on Mark Pollard appeared to get stronger and stronger, moving into 7th place on the final lap to become first Belgravian home. Above right: Also gaining positions steadily was Simon Jones, no lover of cross country but running to an outstanding 18th.
Above: On the first lap everything was going to plan for James Fairbourn who had been aiming for this race all winter. A lap later, however, and a bad fall while crossing a path resulted in gashes to both knees which put him out of the race. All pictures by Alan Mead.
