SEAA 6-Stage Road Relay - Rushmoor Arena, Aldershot, 27 September 2009

Above: The 31st running of the Southern 6-Stage Road Relay gets under way at Rushmoor Arena. All pictures by Alan Mead. Below left: After a kilometre of running Dan Mulhare (A17) heads Ben Whitby (Windsor SE&H), our own Neil Speaight and Highgate's David Bruce. A group of three had gained a temporary lead but would soon be hauled back. Below center: Neil Speaight hands over to James Kelly at the end of stage one and the Bels are in second spot. Below right: Will Cockerell took care of second stage for the Bs.

Above left and center: James hands over to Stephen Sharp having seen the only shake-up in the positions of the leading two teams throughout the whole afternoon.  He overtook the Windsor outfit, only to be swept up himself by Aldershot's Ben Lindsay who took his club into a 19 second lead. Above right: At the half way mark Nick Goolab set out out 24 seconds in arrears of the leaders.  Below: John Charles (C17) leapt at the chance of a run out for the Bs and held 17th place before sending Paskar Owor (D17) on his way. Meanwhile, Nick Goolab (D16) was being run down by Newham's Sam Farah halfway through his stage - but Sam had overcooked it and soon the gap was stretching again.

Above left: Simon Jones (E16) plugged away on stage five before sending anchor man Phil Wicks (H16) on his way. Below left: Phil was third quickest on the day but his talent was negated as second fastest was Aldershot's Andy Vernon, up ahead, and fastest of all was Newham's Moumin Geele, next man behind Phil. Below centre and right: Ben Hurley (E17) and Matt Whiting (H17) ran well to keep the B team in a National qualifying position of 18th.
