SEAA Cross Country Championships - Hillingdon House Farm, 24 January 2009 |

Top row, left to right: Emily Adams (Aldershot 3702), Justina Heslop (Clapham Chasers 3882), Catherine Bryson and Lauren Deadman (Havering Mayesbrook 4004) contest positions 5th to 8th in the senior women's 8k (a). When Catherine Bryson badly twisted her ankle in the county championships she surely couldn't have believed that she'd be 8th in the "Southern" three weeks later (b). Second row. The start of the senior men's 15 kilometre slog, led for a while by Highgate's Thierry Lebreton (5705) (a). Third row: From the second lap onwards, Phil Wicks was out on his own (b). Simon Jones would have preferred a strip of tarmac to race over but did well to place 28th (c). The mud affected some more than others and Mark Pollard (5125) was unable to match his outstanding 7th place of 2008 (c). Fourth row: Pete Willis (5133) seems to be suffering from a string of colds but held up well to become Belgrave's sixth scorer (b). Mike Trees (5129) went off like a rocket in spite of being short on training - it made for a very tiring run (b). Lander Eguia is going to be a useful man and had his sights on Mike Trees towards the end (c) Bottom: James Kelly, "I just couldn't seem to get my legs going in the mud," locks horns with Stuart Major (Newham &EB 5999) (b). Nearing the end of the finish funnel Phil Wicks has claimed his second SEAA Cross Country Championship (a). Will Cockerell, 5th scorer for the Bels, is now 30 points clear in the Plate Competition and sure to retain that trophy for another year (a).
