Belgrave's British League Points Scorers in 2003

With so many conflicting meetings throughout the season (all of which attracted the support of many of our A team men) it took 55 athletes to ensure Belgrave’s 7th consecutive British League victory. And the most surprising and rewarding feature was that it was several of our younger members, fresh from the junior ranks, who made major contributions to a win which will ensure that once again we represent the best of British Clubs in the European Champion Clubs' Championships in 2004.

The top ten in our rankings showed a big change from previous years with only Spencer Barden, Graham Beasley, Kevin Brown and Julian Flynn  of our big guns producing the goods. New member Dan Donovan made an impressive start while under 23 year olds Scot Thompson, Greg Beard, Seni Majekodunmi, and Dominic Girdler made significant contributions.

But it was Scot Thompson, taking advantage of vacancies to throw hammer, shot, javelin and  discus to accumulate a points score, which not only eliminated the record set by Jon Ridgeon of 113 points in 1992, but also raised it to a level unlikely to be surpassed for many a year.

At the other end of the youth spectrum veteran Paul Beaumont returned after an absence from the top ranks to add significantly to his all-time points total. All this has meant a big change to the all-time Rankings List which will be updated and put on the Belgrave website in the near future
