AAA
U20, U17 & U15 Champs., Birmingham. Having
taken the Senior AAA 200 metre title while still a 16 year-old and
ignoring the possibility of qualifying for the European Indoor
Champs. in Vienna, Amy Spencer reverted to competing in her own
age-group for the AAA U17 Championships at Birmingham and as a
result smashed the 300 metre Championship Best Performance by over
2 seconds. The heats saw her make the record her own, her manually
timed 39.7 reducing the previous best of 39.84. By the semi-final
stage she was down to 38.93 - and another whole second and more
came off in the final where her 37.72 moved her into second place
on the UK all-time list for Seniors. James
Ellington was a double winner in the U17 men's sprints.
He ran 6.93 in semi-final and final to take the 60m and
become the UK's =3rd fastest ever for his age but went one better
in the 200m where his winning 21.80 has only ever been beaten by
Cardiff's Tim Benjamin. Silver
medals went to Onen Eyong (U20 LJ), Chris Gearing (U17 Shot),
Graeme Oudney (U20 800m) and Laurence Oboh (U20 60m). U20

Linde Severnside Trophy, Cardiff.
Four more Belgrave indoor records fell in this England vs
Wales vs Athletics Ireland vs Europen Select match at Cardiff.
Another great 800 metre run from Emma Ward found her less
than a second short of the European Championships qualifying
standard as she was narrowly beaten by Euro Select runner Judit
Varga. Rachel King
improved her best time again whilst clearly winning the 60 metres
hurdles while Julie Mitchell took our best indoor 1500m time down
to 4:25.51. Only just
into the under 20 age group, Onen Eyong improved best indoor long
jump to 7.01. Men.

BMC
Races, Cardiff. Stephen Sharp even surprised himself by winning
this BMC 1500m race in only his second indoor run of the winter.
It was set up to help Cardiff’s James Thie beat the World
Indoor qualifying standard and sure enough the Welshman moved
ahead after an opening 1:59, followed closely by Steve.
The required pace began to slip away over the second half
and with Thie tiring it was the Belgrave man who drew into
the lead with 50m remaining.
It wasn’t far from a family double either, as Maria Sharp
chased hard to gain second in the women’s event, just slipping
over 4:30 pace towards the conclusion of the race. Men.

AAA
Champs., Cardiff. a=2, b=3. A
hugely successful Indoor Champs., from a Belgrave point of view,
was crowned by Amy Spencer’s scintillating win over 200 metres
where she beat Sarah Reilly (our own Brendan’s wife) to become a
AAA Champion at the age of 16!
Club records were set across the board as Emma Ward, Sarah
Claxton and Rachel King all gained silver medals.
David Anderson, on his way back from a niggling foot
injury, added to the medal tally with a hard fought run over 3000
metres whilst Ben Challenger showed signs that he is returning to
good form with his high jump win.
Paul Williamson took third spot in the pole vault.
