Belgrave finish fourth in NAL round three

Belgrave steered clear of a relegation battle at the conclusion of this year’s National Athletics League season, although the club fell short of reaching August’s promotion final.

There were a number of outstanding performances on the day.

Sam Ige and Joe McGrath scored almost maximum points in the sprints, and combined as part of the winning 4 X 100 relay team, Sam snatching victory in the last 10 meters. That performance earned 54 points for the club!

Bryony Wilson improved her personal best in the 800m to an excellent 2:11.6 winning her race easily.

Rachel Donnison and Alessandra MacDowell (1), scored 17 points in the 400m.

Ram Choudhury and James Tufnell (1) scored 18 in the Discus.

Georgia Holden ran PBs in both the 1500m and 3000m where she was joined by Karen Xiang who has supported the team in all three matches. Sam Sommerville also did the double, running a seasons best 3:58 in the 1500m then just over 9 minutes in the 3000m in which Jack Kavanagh ran a league record of 7:58.

Laura Darcey and Rose Grace did really well in the High Jump scoring 17 points.

Similarly, Georgia Patterson and Jodie Albrow in the Long Jump. Jodie supporting the team as always.

There was also good performances from Maryam Mfor Mpecassah and Mia Callenberg in the Shot, Mia ever present this summer.

There were many others who doubled up in events to increase the team's points, although there were still gaps in the team sheet in several events. All Belgrave's qualified officials came to support on the day.

Finally, a huge thank you to team managers Orna McGinley and Mike Burslam who have done a magnificent job over the last few seasons and will now be stepping down.
