Belgrave Juniors had their best and most successful turn out ever
Belgrave Juniors had their best and most successful turn out ever on a gloriously sunny Saturday for the first Surrey X/C League match of the season at Wimbledon Common, with 26 athletes across all U14/U16/U18 M/F age groups and 5 full teams scoring, with the 6th only just missing that mark with 3 of 4 scorers.
Belgrave won the U18L team match, with Daisy Larkin, last season’s U16G league winner, placing first, a full 10 seconds ahead of her nearest challenger. Rather optimistically but nevertheless accurately as it turned out, one of Daisy’s teammates had commented only 2 days earlier, ‘We’ll be fine on Saturday, with Daisy in the team all we’ve got to do is not come last!’
Running her first ever Surrey League, Margot Chung, who turned 11 years at the end of August, was 5th U14G, behind 4 athletes aged 12 years and 13 years, whilst the U14G team placed 4th, only 3 finishing positions behind 2nd place. Alfie Larkin had a blinder in the U16B race, 11th place, despite being only 13 years and in the lower band in that age category, with the U14B team placing 6th.
Elsewhere, running in the Senior Ladies race, our only U20L, Ines Beernaert, who travelled back from university in Paris the previous day to represent Belgrave, placed 69th and was rewarded with 1st place U20L.
All in all, a good day out, with the Juniors showing what a credit they are to Belgrave.
