British Champions

The final day of the British Athletics Championships in Birmingham proved to be no less than astounding for Belgrave supporters.

A staggering ELEVENTH title for Goldie

There have been dark times for Goldie Sayers after her injury heartbreak at the time of the 2012 Olympics but today she bounced back to win her ELEVENTH UK javelin title.  Goldie led the competition from the opening round with a cast of 58.54 metres and then in the fifth round uncorked a world class 62.75 metre effort.

William the conquerer

With a newly set personal record of 13.21 for the sprint hurdles William Sharman was the favourite to retain his UK title but his margin of victory was a full four metres as he stopped the clock at 13.18 - unfortunately wind aided at 2.4mps. Will's consistency this summer has been outstanding. We know that as a three times IAAF World Championship finallist and Commonwealth Games silver medallist he always manages to up his game when it comes to the major championships: so what can he do when it comes to the Commonwealth and European races later this summer? We can hardly wait.[/ezcol_2third][ezcol_1third_end]2014-06-29_Sayers

And just 20 minutes later in the final event of the championships we saw Dwain Chambers lining up for the 100 metres show-down. At 36 years of age Dwain was surely up against it but to our great delight he yet again defied the attack from the UK's extremely talented young sprinters and stormed to his FIFTH consecutive UK 100 metres title and EIGHTH win all told. His time was a wind legal 10.12, under the European qualifying time, and Dwain too should be off to Zurich for the European Championships.
