McCain's UK Challenge Final, Birmingham
Gradually coming towards the end of a very successful first season in athletics, 21 year-old Greg Cackett took some good scalps as he won the 100 metres in the McCain's UK Challenge Final. Into a stiff breeze of 2.0 mps Greg sprinted to a 10.56 clocking and put two UKA selections for the European U23 Championships behind him. Greg Beard was third in the shot with 17.19 metres and Samson Oni also placed third, in the high jump.
Horizontal jumpers also got into the frame with Babatunde Amoso 3rd in the triple jump and Paul Ogun second in the long jump.
Jodie Favell travelled to Birmingham as a reserve competitor, got the run in the 400 metre hurdles that she hoped for and set a personal record of 63.27.
