Seismic activity at Bracknell

A very much depleted Southern League team nevertheless managed to continue their winning streak and now top their division by five clear points.

It was a painful experience for our big scorer Pete Mayfield who sprained a ligament in the high jump but continued competing throughout the rest of the meeting off his "wrong" leg. Together with other throwers Grant Sprigings, Chris Privett and Roy Collier, not a single A or B first place was missed.

Roy's most dramatic event was the high jump where the rest of the competitors were in awe of his ability to lift his eighteen stone over 1.50 metres and fail so narrowly at 1.55. It was later reported that the scientific establishment at nearby Bracknell town reported unusual seismic activity in the locality - measuring 4.2 on the Richter Scale with an epicentre somewhere near the sports centre.

For excitement the 800 metres came tops. Having broken away from the field both Mark Humphrey and Robert Norville were neck and neck down the finish straight with Mark just prevailing for an A win ahead of Robert's pb B win; but the 4 x 400 metres came close where Richard McMillan took the Bels into a lead they held to the end.
