SEAA Women's 3x3.5k Cross-country Relay, Wormwood Scrubs
Jodie adds eighth event to repertoire
Will Cockerell writes:- There was an uptick in attendance this year as the men saw finishing teams rise from 17 to 29, and the women from 10 to 16. Our ladies' win from last year has considerable value added now, as the TVH ladies blitzed it here for a fine return some 2:21 superior to what we managed in 2012. This is now a race that requires real attention, and is no longer: turn up and you should medal.
We kicked off with intriguing fare, with one of the finest athletes in the club for sure, but amongst her numerous outstanding talents, 3.5k over grassland is not necessarily one - yet! But a large unavailable list saw heptathlete Jodie Favell grab her chance and although it was 14 minutes of toil, she set Zoe up for a nice game of Space Invaders.
In just her second outing for the club, this extremely fit and able runner from Tring followed up on her fine Rushmoor debut with a brilliant display here, and reeled in no fewer than eight bodies for the sixth fastest of the day. Although there were quite a few more lined up for a returning skipper Sammi to chase, medals were always going to be an ask too far on this day, but with a time just 13 seconds down on last year, we can all breathe a huge sigh of relief that the surgeon's knife has made Amend.
