In partnership with Belgrave Harriers
Early season Newsletter February 2005
Summer 2005 Fixtures
Our partnership arrangement with Belgrave will enable our older more talented athletes to access Belgrave’s higher level of competition i.e. British Athletic League, U.K. Women’s League. It will also allow some of Belgrave’s younger members to join in our junior leagues i.e. Lily B. League, Ebbisham League. Please call in to the Club Room where details of all our many matches are displayed.
Membership
At a recent Child Protection workshop that I attended, the importance of up-to-date records of paid up members could not have been stressed further. This membership list gives all officials at the Club the very vital information of your name, contact number and address so that in the case of an emergency we can quickly contact your parents to inform them if an accident/incident involving you has taken place. By paying your Club membership you are also covered by insurance; allowed to access and to compete in competition; get discount at certain sports shops on equipment; be trained and taken responsibility of by a CRB checked and trained coach. Non-paid up athletes do not get these vitally important and potentially life saving benefits. Please think about this when you ‘forget’ to pay your next fees - due end of April!! Anyone joining the Club from February 1st will pay their membership now and it will be valid until April 2006.
Match Managers
Yes - this plea again. NO ONE came forward to offer help for this coming season. I cannot stress how important it is that we have a match manager for each league. It is not a hard job and you will certainly not be chucked in at the deep end but supported all the way by the coaches. The task simply entails liaising with the coaches about 10 days before a match to ascertain who is available for the match; informing the athletes of the event in which they are to compete; meeting them at the venue to hand their running number/letter; filling in the team sheet and staying the duration of the match to ensure all events are covered. Each League has a maximum about 5 matches so it really is not a huge undertaking. Please ask your parents if they can help our in the vitally important position that simply must be filled or else we may have to pull out and deny your participation in some Leagues.
Mini Marathon Trials
These are to be held at Sutton Arena on Sunday 27th February. The first of three age related races is at 2.00p.m. If you have not received an entry form in the post, then please collect one from the Club Room or contact Beverley Rand, Sports Development Officer at Sutton Council on 020 8770 4667. Closing date for entries is 16th February.
Club Clothing
Don’t forget to check to see if your vest/crop top from last year still fits!! We need to place an order soon to secure them in time for the new season.
Hercules Wimbledon Open Meeting
This is to take place again at Crystal Palace on 10th April after a gap of one year due to refurbishment of the track. Advance entry is required and forms are in the Les Allder Room. This is a wonderful opportunity for young athletes to compete at the world famous venue.
Athletic wear at discount prices
Being a paid up member of Sutton A.C. allows you to obtain equipment at vastly reduced rates from Belgrave Hall, Denmark Road, Wimbledon on Saturday afternoons. This is made possible thanks to contacts that Belgrave Harriers have with adidas.
Wishing you all the very best for the coming season. Don't forget to ask your parents if they can help out in match management. We really do need help in this area. I shall be in touch with the magnificent Tea Ladies who helped out so marvellously last season - you have been warned!!
