UK Women's Athletics League Division 3, Match 3, Cleckheaton
League status clinched at Cleckheaton
It was a very small team that rattled around inside the minibus and faced up to the coach loads of athletes from Reading, Crawley and Herne Hill. But the aim wasn't so much the opposition, rather the need to complete at least 50% of the events to avoid falling foul of the League Rules and with the Channel Islands and Coventry already out of contention thus ensure a berth in the league for 2012.
After a long afternoon with everyone doubling and tripling up with much good humour, the target was achieved. Show event for the Belles was the javelin where Jodie Favell, already winner of the 400 metre hurdles, took second place and Jude Turner was winner of the B string. A special word too for Maureen Noel who had won her 1 hour Walk Championship at Dartford the previous afternoon and then travelled up to compete in the 1500 and 3000 metre events in Cleckheaton.
So, we line up again in 2012. Can we strengthen the squad over the winter? One thing is for sure you can't fault the Belles for committment.
