Women's Southern League 2002: Match 1, Eton
The Belles were streets ahead in most of the senior events but we missed the middle distance aces who were competing so successfully at Sutton Coldfield in the AAA 6 Stage Road Relay. We were also not as strong as we'd have liked in the youngest age group - and overall had to be satisfied with 3rd team place.
AAA Indoor Champion Amy Spencer turned out in her first Southern League match, winning by about 10 metres, and Sarah Claxton and Julie and Anne Holman also made their debuts with great success. As usual Jennifer Culley, Maureen Knight and Amala Onuora piled on the points and Hannah Stares and Shelley Newman continued where they left off last season - winning their events in fine style.
A club record came from Amy Forsythe in the under 17 300m hurdles and Diane Holden added over a metre to her hammer record. Under 15 Louise Collier's 2:19.6 800m was also a club best and improves our under 17 and under 20 age records as well.
