Earning a worthy record as being the man who can be relied upon to consistently produce the goods, Phillips Idowu took his record of victories over Frenchman Teddy Tamgho to seven from their ten clashes. Tamgho is of course the World Leader with 17.91m but in the damp conditions he could only produce two leaps over 16m from three valid efforts while Phillips had five jumps in excess of 17 metres with a best of 17.54m.

After his horrible training accident last year William Sharman made a promising start to his 2011 campaign in the sprint hurdles at Lausanne, Switzerland, clocking 13.71/1.0 for 8th in the B race. Phillips Idowu had a great triple jump series - 17.26, 17.21, 17.22, 17.52, x, 17.14. In the meantime his rival Teddy Tamgho of France could only pull out one valid jump. The only trouble was that Teddy's valid effort was a monster 17.91 metres to head the World's performances for 2011.

5,000m pb bonanza at Watford Full results

Four personal records were set by Belgrave 5k runners with Dan Mulhare's 13:58.62 leading the way and taking him to 19th on the Belgrave all-time list. Dan was 7th in the 'A' race while brother Michael ran 14:04.33 and Stephen Sharp ran his best for four years with 14:06.57.

But we'd already been treated to a huge advance by Simon Jones who not only took his best down to 14:06.57 - he outkicked Enfield's Jon Pepper over the last 200 metres to win the B race. Further down the field Mark Pollard was also on a best - 14:38.61.

Continuing his Brazilian adventures, Dwain Chambers came within 2/100ths of cracking 10 seconds for the 100 metres with the wind spot on the maximum allowed - 2 metres per second. He now has a nice little streak of five wins out of five since 23 April in California.

Representing Wales Matthew Richards set another personal best in the hammer with 64.69 metres, hot on the heels of his previous best throw of 63.58m set the previous weekend. Winners at Loughborough were Samson Oni who beat Darvin Edwards on count back in the high jump, and Greg Beard who is beginning to impress mightily with the shot, pushing it out to 17.56m.

Jodie Favell was busy, winning the javelin and picking up medals in the 100m and 400 metre hurdles events. Greg Cackett and Ryan Ffrench-Shand were finallists in the 100m and 200m respectively and Richard Ward launched a blistering finish to take five seconds out of the bunch over the last 250 metres of the 5000 metres - winning in 15:01.98 - before celebrating somewhat overnight and coming back to place third at 1500m the next day.
